The results of the study showed that although the tea tree oil needs a little more time to take effect, the end result was more effective in reducing the number and severity of open and closed zits, with no side effects unlike benzoyl peroxide. Most participants using benzoyl peroxide experienced dry skin, itching, burning sensations and/or periods of stinging.

The concentrated form of tea tree oil may cause skin blistering, episodes of itching, drying and/or redness for some people. For example you can mix one ml of tea tree oil with nineteen ml of water or carrier lotion like aloe vera and apply to acne.
