Forget the pharmacy and reach for a natural pimple zapper. As a teen you probably dreamed of the day of being pimple-free. It didn’t happen. Instead of spending money at the pharmacy reach for a natural home remedy to clear up your skin better than an over-the-counter acne product or even a prescription. Thyme, witch hazel and apple cider vinegar are three effective natural pimple zappers.
Recent studies have shown that a thyme tincture is an effective treatment of Propionibacterium acnes. Propionibacterium is the bacteria which may cause a simple whitehead or a raging pus-filled cyst. A do-it-yourself tincture of thyme steeped in a grain neutral spirit like vodka for two weeks will do the job. Use a sterile dark color jar and add thyme sprigs, broken in half or bent. Mix 60% water with 40% grain neutral spirit to cover the thyme. Cover the jar with a lid and store in a dark, cool place. Once a day shake the jar. After two weeks, strain the tincture and use 1 – 2 ounce glass bottles with glass eyedroppers to remove the tincture for use as a natural pimple zapper that is more powerful than benzoyl peroxide.
Another effective zit zapper is witch hazel. Witch hazel is an anti-inflammatory remedy which is also an effective antiseptic against skin infections. It tightens, tones and cleans your pores. Some people report quick effects of witch hazel because it can improve the look of skin by reducing inflammation and tightening pores. Since witch hazel is inexpensive, you can use it on a regular basis without worry of cost, and experience the long-term effects of clearer skin.
Apple Cider Vinegar is another natural pimple zapper. The acids found in the vinegar removes excess cells and dirt, leaving your skin feeling softer and smoother. Apple cider vinegar also restores the pH level of your skin to the healthy range of about 5.5. The pH balance is disrupted with cleansing and use of alkaline skin products. While healthy skin is capable of restoring the natural pH balance, stress, harsh products and over cleaning adversely affects the pH level of your skin. Apple cider vinegar helps to unblock pores and restore your skin to its healthy state. Apple cider vinegar may be used as a toner undiluted, 1:1 ratio or even a 1:4 ratio depending on how your skin is able to tolerate the acidic concentration of the vinegar. Start with the most diluted solution and slowly experiment with stronger concentrations.
If you have open or healing pimples don’t apply the full concentration of apple cider vinegar directly to the pimple to avoid a burning sensation.
Whether you use thyme, witch hazel or apple cider vinegar it may take some time to see results with decreased pimples and improved skin texture. While there is not a quick silver bullet to combating acne, a natural pimple zapper may come pretty close.
